Как приятно провести осенний дождливый вечер?

«10 сентября, середина учебной недели, вечер, плохая погода.... Тем не менее, учителя отделения «Пресня» и Одинцовского филиала смогли найти время, силы и хорошее настроение для встречи в школьном баре за чаем, пирогом и приятной беседой.
Нужно было поприветствовать коллег из других стран, познакомить их со школой и частично снять культурный шок от новой страны.
Мероприятие прошло очень весело, бешено энергично и изумительно уютно.
После небольшого приветствия все стремительно придумали имена своим командам и с большим энтузиазмом приняли участие в конкурсах: делали фигуры из прыгалок, придумывали необходимые в школе фразы на русском и английском языках, изобретали каверзные вопросы на знание своей и чужой культуры. Отличный способ узнать друг друга получше и посмеяться от души!
Из этих несложных в общем-то действий и всеобщего желания познакомиться, рассказать о себе и родилась чудесная атмосфера этого вечера, о котором и теперь, по прошествии времени, приятно вспоминать».

«Yesterday the Russian-English teaching staff and Native-English teaching staff, fr om both Presnya and Odintsovo campuses, gathered to become better acquainted. This professional development was led by Sam and Elena; veteran teachers fr om the English department. The teachers were greeted at the entrance and given a shape. Teachers then needed to find their like-shaped colleagues to form their "teams". 4-5 teams were created. After a short meet-and-greet with their teammates, the teachers were invited to sit at the tables with their team to play a few competitive games (eg. making shapes with a jump rope, answering trivia questions, and making questions for our Russian/Native counterparts). Teachers then drank tea, ate pie, and carried on in casual conversation.
I personally found this professional development activity to be helpful, positive, creative, and beneficial. Meetings such as these allow colleagues, especially those of varying countries, cultures, and language skills, to feel connected and involved in a school-wide manner. It unites a teaching staff that may have otherwise never met or had the opportunity. The informality of the meeting allowed us to get to know each other and discuss things such as: your favorite restaurant, wh ere to travel in the city, or simply wh ere we come from. While these conversations do not explicitly affect our teaching, the feeling of being in a safe, caring, and open environment
allows teachers to flourish; and that is of the utmost importance. The principal, director, and other administrative staff being present sent a message to the teachers that this was important and valued by administration as well.
I thank all of those who planned and directed the professional development. I have already seen the positive effects after one day when I passed a Russian English teacher in the hall and we said "Hello" and shared a smile. These connections are the type that make a year of teaching a team effort, no matter the language that is spoken».
