Language Day 2021: Christmas Magical Celebrations and Traditions

26 ноября 2021

A rather bleak and dull November’s Day was in stark contrast to an atmosphere of cheer and delight in the Odintsovo Campus of the Moscow Economic School. On Thursday 25th November, our school celebrated its annual Foreign Language Day, our theme for this year being Christmas Magical Celebrations and Traditions. Our students inquired into how Christmas is celebrated in China, as well as English, French, German, Spanish-speaking countries, including the traditions celebrated in these countries.

For Foreign Languages Day, our students prepared videos and posters showing the results of their inquiries. During lessons, students participated in a quiz show, answering questions on the topics of their lessons, before sampling a range of Christmas delights offered by the School canteen.

The highlight of Languages Day was the Assembly where students invited onto the stage and awarded their Foreign languages Exams certificates presented by an elf and reindeer! Our students performed a range of sketches and songs, some of the most memorable being the 6th class singing ‘Hymne de la Vie’ and the ninth class presenting some Christmas poetry. “Andrey from the 7th class commented that everyone had worked really worked hard in making Languages Day a day to remember. Several members of the 5th & 6th classes wanted their teachers to dress as reindeers or elves for the whole the winter term! Andrey commented that one of the most enjoyable performances was the pre-school performance, in which students dressed as mini Harry-Potters!

“Everyone had presented amazing performances and Valeria S’. performance was amazing! She’s a really good singer!” commented Ivan from the 7th Grade while discussing their reflections after the event.

Out students also enjoyed the Magical Quiz Show. They answered a range of questions on topics relating to fantasy, films and literature and some General Christmas Knowledge questions! “The quiz was really exciting and I learned so much about Harry Potter!” exclaimed Maria from the 10th grade! “I haven’t watched Harry Potter for such a long time! I’m looking forward to watching the box set during the Christmas holidays!

It is hard to imagine that Christmas and New Year are just round the corner. During this time of year, they seem so seem so near, yet so far away. We wish all of our students the best of luck in their subjects this term and also wish them a happy, relaxing and enjoyable New Year’s holiday.
